The other day I noticed I got extra money in my paycheck. I was really confused, because if you get extra money from a school… it’s abnormal. I checked my school email to see if anyone had caught onto this mistake. I spotted an email from my principal who was listing off some updates for us all. At the bottom of the message, she noted that a few people would see a small amount of money put into their account this pay period. She said, “If you received an extra sum of money– congratulations to you! 50% or more of your students scored on grade level or higher on their end of the year state exams in either ELA or Math!”
My students came to me at varying levels (as many students do) but only about 3 of mine were working on grade level.
As a first year teacher in a grade I was not very comfortable with, I am so excited! I hope I am able to make accomplishments like this next year in Pre-K! I’m pleased to wrap up my 2011-2012 school year with some great news. I’m so proud of my kiddos!
What are other teachers doing this summer?
Have you started getting ready for next year yet?
Are any parents planning exciting trips with their children?
What activities do you have lined up to help your child get ready for next school year?
Way to go!!!!!
As a former teacher (and mom to writer of “Tales From The School Bus”), I hope you keep your Mo-Jo and all that good Joo-Joo. Teaching is the most rewarding, entirely consuming, and thoroughly draining profession in the world (next to motherhood). Ask lots of questions, and change your plans mid stream if necessary. Spend a few extra minutes (even if it is during lunch or recess) with that kid who is just not grasping a concept, hug the kid who is the biggest pain in the neck or the most incorrigible, challenge the bright little bugger who is a busybody and just wont sit still. Take advantage of all resources – parent helpers, volunteer grandparents or whoever your school invites! Most of all don’t forget to have fun! Congratulations on choosing a terrific profession!
i would like to commend you because some parents will not or can not teach there children and need good teachers. I myself don’t believe my child is best in the public school and we were going to put her in this year because she wanted the expierence and we want her to expierence things. But they generalize her and it was such a fight to get her in. Thats the problem she learned to much and now they don’t want her where she tested at her current grade. But they want her to repeat the same grade she mastered in 5 months and went on threw next grade thew k12. the irony is k12 is a public online school and they still fought her repeating a grade no matter the hard work she gave. SO we will continue homeschooling now with a bad taste of public school. Not just 1 but 2 schools we tried. There should not be a bias against homeschooled students.
I am glad there are good teachers because not everyone is willing to dedicate there life to teaching there children.
Thank you all for reading and for your kind words! It’s hard to get started with this blog in the summer because I am starting to get nervous about everything I need to do for my evaluation year. I had so much to talk about during the year and now I’m full of questions again. Once the year starts I’m sure I’ll be full of questions and topics to discuss!
